Obion County School Calendar 2023 – The Director of Finance and Administration will be a strategic partner and will report to the Executive Director (ED). The successful candidate will be a hands-on manager who will lead and develop supporting documents in the following areas: Finance, Business Planning and Budgeting, Human Resources and Grants Administration.
This position is part-time, remote, 3 hours per week, and is funded by two years of USDA farm school establishment grants. This position will earn up to $3,600 per year with many benefits.

This Saturday, July 30, at the Martin Farmers Market from 8:00 a.m. to noon, the Northwest Area Food Network will offer free easy taste tests with farmers market vendors serving their favorite breakfast foods. Children's activities include a bookmarking table by the Kiwanis Kids Club. Blackberry's Pond Garden will feature a hands-on water tower and miniature growing demonstrations.

The Northwest Tennessee Local Food Network is hosting this year's #FoodChallenge from Saturday, April 23rd to June 18th, 2022.

This year 56 individuals, families and daycares benefited from increased food and reduced food waste in five (5) Northwest Tennessee counties: Benton, Carroll, Henry, Obion and Weekley. LFN encourages everyone to donate leftover produce to food pantries across the state by visiting their website: /volunteer/plant-a-row-for-the-hunger.

Grow in Crops Participants had six opportunities to enter a total of 6 photos per participant in the Growing Food and Food Waste projects. The more photos you submit, the more chances you have to win the grand prize: a Countryside King Chest Cooler and Quarter Processed Cattle from Giffin Farms!

This year's challenge was the first time that the Local Food Network decided to distribute 300 prepackaged packages of honey in 9 neighborhoods around us. "We distributed over 4,000 seed packets donated by the St. Andrews Community, Organic High Mobility Company and Collaborative Gardens and UTM," said Samantha Guerret, director of the Local Food Network. "Eighteen (18) seed packets contain a 'golden ticket' with a one-day pass to Discovery Park. We want to know who won those tickets. Let us know on the @NWTN Essential Gardens Facebook group page! Next year we'd like to distribute seed packets at public libraries. to encourage the creation of community banks, such as the Carroll County Public Library seed bank," Guerret said.

Martin Board To Reconsider Festival Park Concrete Plans
The school serves as an important support center for children. School lunch programs improve nutrient intake, particularly by increasing student fruit and vegetable consumption. Research shows that free lunch reduces food insecurity and diversity in school meals. It is important not only to have enough food, but also to provide quality nutrition to avoid negative health outcomes. Additionally, free school lunch programs reduce financial and emotional stress on food insecure students and families.
School nutrition directors are already planning menus, writing orders and taking orders for the 2022/23 school year. School meal programs face serious supply chain, operational and financial challenges. With no sign of easing barriers, uncertainty over exemption rates and reimbursement rates is continuing to delay the competitive process.

Food programs and providers must urgently extend the exemption through SY 2022/23 and maintain continued regulatory flexibility to support student food service. The withdrawal of child nutrition on June 30 will have dire consequences for these programs and for millions of people. Students who rely on school meals. Contact your legislators to get bipartisan support for the Senate and House bill to extend this important USDA exemption!
