Gilbert Public Schools Calendar 2023-2024 – After receiving support from GPS families and staff, Gilbert Public Schools will officially transition to a new academic calendar beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. The new calendar means students and staff have two weeks off for the fall, winter and spring semesters. The board officially adopted the new calendar in February 2021 after a survey showed that GPS families and employees support the change.
The school year starts eight calendar days earlier than the current school year, with the first full day of classes beginning on July 26, 2022. The early start gives students more opportunities for enrichment programs and academic interventions when needed. Teachers in our school campus will continue to receive professional training according to the previous school calendar. Although spring and fall vacations have been extended, careful consideration has not been given to disrupting the learning environment.
Gilbert Public Schools Calendar 2023-2024
Gilbert Public Schools will now operate on a similar schedule to neighboring districts, including Chandler USD, Higley USD and Queen Creek USD. GPS students and staff will be off Wednesday through the Thanksgiving holiday as well as the shorter spring break weekend. Vacations make it easier for families to prioritize time together and plan outings. For families concerned about childcare needs, Gilbert Public Schools offers enrichment programs, youth sports and holiday camps.
Sulphur Public Schools
At a basic level, there are plans for the beginning of the school year, when summer temperatures may be problematic for outdoor recreation on some days. If there is a heat advisory day, GPS Elementary students will stay inside and provide board games, videos and other optional activities to keep them entertained during recess. Schools determine appropriate activities based on student needs.
The new school calendar means GPS High School athletics will move to four seasons, allowing each school to add boys volleyball to its roster of athletes. Boys and girls soccer for seventh and eighth graders will be expanded. With the main junior season now nine weeks old, including the playoffs, expect some changes to the game schedule. Opportunities to support player development will also be provided through Gilbert Youth Athletes. The 2022-2023 elite sports schedule is now available online. GPS athletes and families with questions about the impact of the calendar on youth sports can contact the athletic director on campus. The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) will continue to oversee and administer sports at GPS High School.
The new calendar changes will also be effective from the 2023-2024 school year.
