Uga 2023 Calendar – To be eligible for Head Start in the spring semester, students must be within 15 credit hours of completing course requirements by the end of the spring semester. No student may graduate or attend commencement while a disciplinary proceeding or hearing is pending, or if the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs deems such attendance inappropriate.
The school recognizes academic achievement of true distinction by awarding the Juris Doctor, superior award, or superior award based on overall grade point average.
Uga 2023 Calendar

A typical daily credit load is 12 to 18 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and 3 to 8 credit hours in the summer semester. A semester requires enrollment in a minimum of 12 semester hours, but in unusual circumstances the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs may allow a student to enroll in fewer hours. Enrolling in at least 10 semester credits during your final semester of study qualifies you for full-time resident status. Please note that enrollment in 10 credit hours may not count as full-time for financial aid purposes. Students may not register for more than 18 hours in the fall or spring semester and 8 hours in the summer semester.

Students must spend at least two hours per week on extracurricular course work for each credit hour of the course. Therefore, for a 3-credit course, students must spend six hours studying each week.

This course covers the life cycle of a case in federal court, including the scope and nature of the constitutional and statutory authority of the federal courts to decide cases. Completion of this course must include: (1) a description of the topic and scope of the thesis; (2) an overview of approximately two pages; (3) a complete summary with citations for each major item, including a preliminary bibliography of all sources searched for that item; (4) a textual proposal with a bibliography of the sources cited or not cited in the text; and (5) final dissertation, including references.
Direct research cannot involve a subject that the student has studied seriously or studied in another context, such as law journals, moot courts, paid research, office work, or previous seminars. The student can use the finished project as the student wishes.

A professor does not supervise research outside his specialty unless there is a faculty member with that specialty. There is usually no research focused on the seminar topic currently being offered. Except in exceptional cases, a professor cannot supervise more than 7 students during an academic year for direct research. Except in exceptional cases with the approval of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, no faculty member may evaluate a research project under the direction of another faculty member.
Directed research should generally be directed by full-time faculty. In rare cases, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs may delegate the supervision of this work to an assistant or visiting professor.

The thesis must be approved before entering the research under the supervision of a professor. After the project is approved and the student is accepted, the balance of the steps must be completed according to the schedule established by the faculty.
